I’m Imogen Knight

I came to have Somatic Experiencing after years of psychodynamic therapy. As helpful as traditional talking therapy was I was still experiencing immense anxiety and stress that I couldn’t think my way out of. I came across Somatic Experiencing and over time I built a new way of listening and understanding my body, what it was saying and how best I could support it and respect its innate wisdom. Once there was a felt sense of safety within my whole being my symptoms began to shift profoundly.

I trained in Somatic Experiencing to deepen my awareness of how trauma and stress can present itself and how liberating and life affirming healing can be and feel.

In my early twenties I trained as a contemporary dancer and was a performer in a number of prolific dance and physical theatre companies. As a young dancer I experienced creative burnout and lost my appetite for moving. Over time and very organically I began to discover a more somatic and authentic way of moving through the practise of 5 Rhythms. It was here that I rebuilt my connection, curiosity and wonder about the power of movement and its healing effects.

I now create and lead creative and somatic movement workshops all over the world with professionals, marginalised groups and charities. For more details go to the Workshops page.

Somatic therapy and somatic awareness continues to help me understand and have greater empathy, agency and compassion in all areas of my life. I believe that a body orientated approach that also welcomes and integrates the mind is the only way we can begin to shift our patterns and symptoms on a cellular level.

I am currently training with the sex educator and somatic therapist Ariel Giarretto on Somatic Sexuality Healing Certificate in The Netherlands. Sexuality and Sexual Trauma healing are areas close to my heart and work that I believe has the power to transform our own lives and the world we live in.

The key element of Somatic Experiencing®, Embodiment, Somatic Movement, NeuroAffective Touch® and my role as a therapist and bodyworker is to support you back to a more regulated, relaxed, and alive state which you are then able to sustain in your everyday life. It may be that one of these practises works best for you or a combination of them all. Ultimately my aim is to provide a safe and non judgemental environment where your body and mind can experience sensations, feelings and thoughts without them overwhelming and hijacking your essential self and your life force.

“Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.”
